Burundi: Attack on Rwanda from Burundi: President Evariste Ndayishimiye will never stop giving them multifaceted support
Less than 24 hours after the burial of the late President Nkurunziza, on the night of June 26 to 27, 2020, a group of armed men from Burundi launched an attack on the Rwandan military positions in Nyaruguru locality of Ruheru in the South of Rwanda. According to Lieutenant-Colonel Innocent Munyengango, spokesman of the Rwandan army, 3 Rwandan soldiers were wounded, 4 rebels killed, 3 captured and many seized items including weapons and ammunition, diverse logistics including cans marked Burundi National Defence Forces made in China. The spokesman said that these groups had the objective of attacking the population of a village in Yanze located 1km from the border with Burundi. He adds that after the attack, these rebels withdrew towards Burundi from where they came, exactly on the Burundian military positions of Gihizi in Bukinanyana commune, Cibitoke province
Beyond the facts, some people wonder whether the new Burundi president is ready to work for the improvement of relations between the two countries, Rwanda and Burundi. This attack is a test for him.
Even if it is said that in politics anything is possible, that there are no friends but interests, it is permissible to be pessimistic at this point. Indeed, the Burundian population needs good relations with their brothers and sisters in Rwanda. However, the major problem is to be found in the relationships that the Burundian leaders, within the cnddfdd, have woven for a long time with the hutus Rwandan genocidal of 1994.
The plan to kill Tutsis in the region dates back a long time and Hutu extremists from Burundi and Rwanda have always agreed on this plan. We will come back to this in detail.
But, be aware that after the genocide of Burundian Tutsis by the Frodebu Hutus in 1993 after the death of the late President Melchior Ndadaye, the criminals took refuge in Rwanda on Havyarimana Juvenal regime , who was also preparing a genocide of Tutsis. The project was the same. Note that it was from Radio Mille Colline in Rwanda that Doctor Jean Minani called on the Hutu of Burundi to stand up as one man to defend their democracy. He knew what he was recommending to them because the plan had been taught during the election campaign. These hutus Burundian criminals continued to get militarily training among the Interahamwe group in Rwanda and participated in the genocide of the Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994 alongside the Interahamwe and the Rwandan army. Many testimonies indicate that Burundian Hutus who lived in Nyamata in Bugesera, those who were in the Gikongoro camp, those who lived in Cangugu and especially those in the Nyarushishi camp participated massively in the genocide of tutsis Rwandan in 1994.
It should be noted here that according to the information at our disposal, the current president of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye has had military training in this Nyarushishi camp with many other young Burundian Hutus. It was Major Francois Marc from France who trained them. When one priest asked him where these young people come from, the major replied that it was the prefect who was bringing them together. This shows the involvement of the entire administration of the Havyarimana government in the genocide.
After 1994 genocide in Rwanda, these Burundian Hutus fled to the RDCongo with the Interahamwe and the Rwandan army, some went to join the first elements that had started the rebellion in Burundi in 1994. Evariste Ndayishimiye would have joined the University of Burundi and also joined the rebels groups in 1995. It’s why we find in Burundi security forces rwandan elements, some who were been alongside Burundian Hutus during the rebellion period , others who were recruited by the military clique on power in Burundi to train the imbonerakure militia in the killing techniques . Others were transferred to close guard units of the high authorities.
Apart from these relations, the cnddfdd leaders signed conventions with the FDRL residing in the Republic of Congo for the trafficking of minerals in exchange for arms and ammunition. In fact, FDRL members had minerals extracted in the DRC and Burundi facilitated its sale, for a fee to the various leaders in the upper echelons of the state. In turn, these generals ordered weapons from Russia or China on the grounds that this material was intended for the Burundian army. After landing these weapons at Bujumbura airport, they are sent to the FDRL in the DRC. Since they started to disturb Rwanda, these interahamwe have used Burundi as a rear base without any gene. They leave the DRC, pass through Burundi, and attack Rwanda, sometimes with logistics drawn from the stocks of the Burundian army.
This is why we should not expect Evariste Ndayishimiye to facilitate the resumption of cooperation with Rwanda which he constantly described as an enemy country when he was General Secretary of the cnddfdd. Relations may, on the contrary, deteriorate further. For him, the genocide of the Tutsis of 1994 was not enough in Rwanda; he still wants to facilitate access to these FDRL criminals to return to Rwanda to plunge the country back into fire and blood. He will do his best to provoke Rwanda to use his prosecution right so that he can take advantage of it to complete in Burundi the genocide of Tutsis which began in 1993 and which continued slowly over the entire term of the cndd fdd.
URN HITAMWONEZA ( Union for the Rebirth of the Nation ) once again warns the sub region, the African Union and the United Nations that if preventive measures are not taken in time, another genocide may occur in the coming days in the Great Lakes sub region. Close collaboration between the new military power in Burundi and the Rwandan genocidal armed groups which are in the DRC would be an element to follow closely.
